Tex's English Chippy-Style Gravy
If I fancy a chippy tea I'll either cook one from scratch, or hit the freezer. I dig out the frozen battered fish, the frozen chips, and a can of mushy peas from the cupboard. Either way, the real star of the show is this quick and easy gravy I mix up for it... 🌟😺
BTW, chip shops don't serve gravy in the south of England, so if you're a Londoner, this is what you're missing 😼
Cooking instructions
* Step 1
Mix all the dry ingredients in a jug, and add the hot water. Stir well, then add the ketchup, vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir well again
* Step 2
Place the jug in the middle of the microwave. Heat on full for 1½ min until boiling. Allow to cool for 10-15 minutes then stir well and repeat
* Step 3
Next, cook your meal (fish, chips and mushy peas in my case 😺) while gravy reduces. Bring the gravy to a simmer in the microwave a few minutes before you're ready to serve. Taste and adjust if necessary
* Step 4
Plate up your chippy grub, so peas first...
* Step 8
Then drizzle with the gravy...
* Step 9
If you want to cook this meal from scratch, see recipes in my profile for 'Tex's Proper Beer-Battered Fish & Chips'...
* Step 10
...and 'Tex's Mushy Peas'
* Step 11
Plus 'Tex's No-Fail Chips'...
* Step 12
This is also great on that chippy favourite, steak & kidney pudding...
