Chayote Pepper Kootu dal

Orgin is from South India which is traditionally cooked by Brahmins. Goes well with hot rice and dal powder as a side dish

Ingredient

Cooking time :

45 minutes
3/4 cup

Moong dal

to taste

Salt

2 tbsp

Coconut oil

2 cups

Water

1 tbsp

Urad dal

3 tbsp

Coconut

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

Pressure cook chayote and dal for 3 whistles

* Step 2

In a pan add oil saute the ingredients until golden brown and grind everything into a fine paste

* Step 3

In a pan add oil when it hot add Mustard seeds when it splutter add red chilli, curry leaves

* Step 4

Add the pressure cooked chayote and dal

* Step 5

Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder and salt. Mix well and boil for a few minutes

* Step 6

Then add the grinded paste, hing and add little water if it is thick.

* Step 7

Boil for a few minutes and switch off the flame.
