Dry Bombay Duck curry with green spring onion and jackfruit Seed

#हरे Loitta or dry Bombay Duck is a spicy fish curry, very popular throughout Bengal. This fish is known by different names and spellings. In West Bengal and Bangladesh, it is called as Loitta or Loitya, in Mumbai it is known as Bombil or Bombay Duck, in Kerala it is called Bummili and Ushnish in Chinese.

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

Immerse the dried fish in water for 5 mins, wash and pat dry the fish pieces. Rub with a pinch of salt and the turmeric and leave for 15 minutes. Boil the jackfruit seeds and cut into medium pieces for cooking.Chop the green onions/spring onions into medium sizes and keep aside.

* Step 2

Take a pan,put some oil and heat it on stove. Put dry Bombay Duck into it and fry in a low medium flame for five minutes.Now put chopped onions, green chillies and salt as required and fry untill onions become brown. Put ginger garlic paste, termeric powder, red chilli powder,cumin powder and coriender powder into it with 1/2 cup water and stir fry untill oil become separated from the spice.

* Step 3

Now put spring onions and jackfruit seeds into it with 1.5 cup water and cook for more 15 minutes. Bombay Duck curry is ready to serve.

* Step 4

Enjoy this curry with roti, paratha and rice as you like.
