#Daal Karela is a healthy delicious easy recipe. Sliced bitter gourd is cooked with soaked and cooked chana daal. I have Deep fried the Karela slices to remove the bitterness of Karela slices.Then the Karela slices are added in the tomato masala mix and cook for few minutes. It can be served with roti or rice. This is a good healthy rice to pack in lunch box.

Cooking instructions
* Step 1
Peel wash and cut karela in 4 pieces. Apply salt liberally on it and keep aside for 2 hours. Then wash it in running water 2-3 times and squeeze extra water. Wash peel and Chop onions lengthwise.
* Step 2
Heat mustard oil in a wok. Add chopped karela pieces and fry till golden brown colour. Remove it in a plate.
* Step 3
Wash and soak gram dal for 2 hours. Transfer it in a pressure cooker. Add salt and turmeric powder and pressure cook till 7-8 whistles. Switch off the flame and let pressure releases automatically. Keep it aside
* Step 4
Add chopped onions in the wok (oil is still left) in which karela were fried. Fey onions. Add salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and saute till done. Add grated tomato puree and saute for 1 minute.
* Step 5
Add black pepper powder, mango powder and garam masala. Add whole green chilies. Saute for 30 seconds.
* Step 6
Add boiled gram dal. let it simmer on medium flame for 4-5 minutes. Add fried karela pieces.
* Step 7
Mix and cook on low flame for 5-7 minutes till water absorbs.
* Step 8
Serve hot with chapatti or parantha.
