Mirchi Bhajji Karnataka style

This is a favourite monsoon dish all across Karnataka and southern India. On roadside carts or in bones , it's a must have with a hot cuppa. It's spicy, crunchy, hot and just sets the mood when it's pouring outside. Enjoy anytime!

Ingredient

Food ration :

4 to 5 people

Cooking time :

15 minutes
2 tablespoons

corn flour

to taste

Salt

1 teaspoon

Red chilli powder

1/2 teaspoon

Turmeric powder

1 teaspoon

Garlic paste

1 teaspoon

Cumin powder

1 teaspoon

Coriander powder

1/4 teaspoon

Ajwain (omum) seeds

1/4 teaspoon

Asafoetida

1 teaspoon

chat masala

as needed

Oil to fry

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

Slit the chillies on one side and remove seeds. Keep the ends intact. Smear the insides with a mix of oil and salt. Also keep the oil to heat.

* Step 2

In a bowl, mix all the flours, paste and spices, a teaspoon of hot oil and make a thick paste with water. In a plate keep some dry besan.

* Step 3

Roll each chilli in dry flour, then in batter and slide in hot oil. Fry on medium flame till golden on both sides. Drain on kitchen tissue and serve hot with cup of tea and sprinkled with chat masala on top. Enjoy the rains with crispy Mirchi Bhaji Or also called as Mensinkayi Bajji and Mirchi bonda.
