California Farm Gosling Feed

Two Embden baby geese arrived by mail today, hatched in Iowa. It is 111F degrees out. Made a waterbath for them in the shade with floating bits of bok choy and cooked corn. I expect my mamma goose to adopt them and teach them what to eat. The mamma goose is grey and white, Embden geese are all white when adult, the baby geese went into the field today with a white lamb to graze. I hope they didnt adopt the white lamb as mother. We will feed them cooked brown rice with boiled and cracked roasted peanuts , it has the extra niacin and oil they need, and bales of green timothy hay grass till the grass here turns green again.

Peanuts: crockpot 1 day boil; rice 1 hour

roasted or green peanuts in the shell

1 pound

brown rice

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

Crack roasted or green peanuts and shells with wooden mallet.

* Step 2

Soak dried timothy grass in waterbath with running cool water for goslings to eat.

* Step 3

Put roasted cracked peanuts in dutch oven with 1 pound brown rice, top with quart of water, bring to boil, simmer an hour to release the peanut oil into the rice, cool. If green peanuts, boil 12 hours in crockpot. Makes three pounds feed for the week. Feed half pound daily, plus unlimited free timothy grass. Boiled peanuts spoil after a week, so make fresh weekly or freeze.
