Melomakarona by Akis

This recipe for melomakarona (Christmas honey cookies with walnuts) is from Akis' show, "Πρωινό μου". I am sharing it with you because it is really worth trying!

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

Boil the ingredients for the syrup 3-4 hours before you start making the melomakarona so that there is enough time for the syrup to cool.

* Step 2

When it boils, remove from heat and add the honey. Let it cool.

* Step 3

Mix all the ingredients for mixture 1 thoroughly using a good whisk.

* Step 4

Add the ingredients of mixture 2 and mix softly for a little while, just until the flour is fully incorporated in the rest of the mix

* Step 5

Form your melomakarona and make a crosshatch pattern on the top of the cookies (you can just poke them with a fork). Bake at 190°C for about 20-25 minutes until they are crispy.

* Step 6

Dip the hot melomakarona into the cold syrup and leave them for 20 seconds, then strain them.

* Step 7

Dilute some honey with some water. Place the melomakarona on a platter, drizzle the diluted honey over them and sprinkle with walnuts.
