* Step 1
Five pounds beef. Wipe dry,put into hot pot. Brown meat in little hot fat. Add hot water,salt pepper. Cook at least 3 to 31/2 hours. Cook cabbage 1 hour,rutabaga 1 hour,carrots 45 minutes,potatoes 30 minutes. Cook vegetables separately,add just before serving. Thicken meat gravy with little flour and water. Let come to boil, strain. Serve hot with tomato or horse radish sauce.
