A winter delicacy is this ‘Sheem bharta’ or Mashed Flat Beans. A completely vegan little side dish which accompanies a traditional Bengali home-cooked everyday kind of meal.

Cooking instructions
* Step 1
Blanch the flat beans and cool,strain and remove the veins of the string beans by pulling apart and make a paste
* Step 2
Fry diced onions and raisins in 2 tbsp oil and once brownish strain and cool.
* Step 3
Mix with the beans puree and again grind to make a smooth paste.
* Step 4
In the same kadai add 2 tbsp mustard oil and add black cumin seeds, dry red chilli and green chillies. Now add the paste and keep stirring adding salt to taste. When it starts leaving the sides of the kadai add 1 tbsp mustard oil and serve with steamed rice.
