Shol Mulo aka Mooli Maachli

#cc2022 #week2 Winter is the season when ‘Shol Maach’ is available in market. This Bengali recipe is another purely winter delicacy and it's one of those traditional Bengali dishes which we have during winters. The availability of fresh radish and coriander leaves and of course the shol fish is seasonal as well makes an amazing combination for winter lunch.

Ingredient

Shol Mach

1/4 cup

tomato paste

1/2 cup

mustard oil

1/2 tsp

cumin seeds

1 tsp

salt

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

Smear 1 tsp turmeric powder and some salt on the fish pieces. Leave for 15-20 minutes. Peel the radish and cut them into thick strips. Heat 5 Tbsp oil in a kadai. Carefully slide the fish pieces. Fry 2 fish pieces at a time. Fry them till golden brown from both sides.

* Step 2

Fry the potatoes and radish in the remaining oil and take out of the kadai and keep aside

* Step 3

Add fresh 2 tbsp mustard oil, add cumin seeds, chopped onions and ginger paste and slightly fry adding 2 tbsp water. Now add tomato paste and stir till oil seperates.

* Step 4

Add the fried vegetables and mix well. Add 1 cup water and cook till they are soft. Add salt to taste and turmeric powder.

* Step 5

Add the fried fishes one by one. After mixing add green chillies and cover and cook for 7-8 minutes on medium heat. Shol fish takes more time to cook than other fishes.

* Step 6

Add some freshly chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with rice.
