Turkey shaped rolls

November 8th, 2016 Project Forward class Making yeast bread with thoughts of Thanksgiving only a few weeks away. The students shaped the divided dough into turkey shaped rolls. Gobble,gobble!

Ingredient

1 tbsp

butter

1 cup

warm milk

2 tbsp

sugar

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

Microwave the warm, milk and sugar for 30 seconds.

* Step 2

Measure 4 cups of flour into a large bowl. Sprinkle yeast over flour and mix. Make a well in center of flour. Pour the warm mixture into the well. Stir to in corporate the dry and wet ingredients.

* Step 3

Swirl 1 cup of flour on the counter. Empty the bowl of moist dough on to the flour. Sprinkle the lump of dough with the last cup of flour.

* Step 4

Knead the dough with floured hands until smooth and elastic. Let the dough rest and rise on the counter by covering with a greased bowl for 30 min.

* Step 5

Remove the bowl, punch down the dough and divide into 24 equal pieces.

* Step 6

Roll one of the pieces into a rope about 7-9 inches long. Make a circle and loop one end of the rope through the circle. Flatten one end with your thumbs to make a fan tail...snip feathers with a pair of scissors. Fashion the opposite end of the rope into a turkey neck. Place roll on a greased cookie sheet to rise for about 1 hour.

* Step 7

Brush rolls with a beaten egg before baking in a 350 degree oven. Rolls take approx 15 min to bake. Gloss over the hot rolls with a stick butter. Your guests will enjoy your creativity! Gobble, gobble!
