Slow cooker Split pea soup

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

In a slow cooker, add ham bone, skin, trimmings, bacon ends and water; cover and simmer for at least 10 hours, up to 24 hours. (You can add more ham if your bone isn't meaty enough)

* Step 2

Let cool. Remove fat cap (if any), bones, shred the meat and add back to the broth

* Step 3

Turn slow cooker back on. Rinse split peas and add to broth. Add onions, garlic.

* Step 4

Add the rest of the ingredients (except carrots) and cook on low for 8 hours. Add carrots and cook an additional 4 hours.
