Taiwanese Shaved Ice
Taiwanese shaved ice, also known as Bao Bing in Mandarin or Shua Bing in Taiwanese. It is freshly shaved ice covered with array of delicious chewy and fruity toppings. Today I am going to show you the traditional way of making this popular dessert.
Cooking instructions
* Step 1
Open can of Aiyu, drain the liquid, place in a bowl, and cut randomly into smaller pieces.
* Step 2
Open can of Grass Jelly, drain the liquid, place in a bowl, and cut randomly into smaller pieces.
* Step 3
Rinse red beans under water, soak with 3 times of water overnight, cook for ~1-1/2 hours on low heat, and turn off heat and let cool.
* Step 4
Rinse green beans under water, soak with 3 times of water overnight, cook for ~20 minutes on low heat, and turn off heat and let cool.
* Step 5
Add 3 cups of sugar to a clean pot, add 1 cup of water, bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, and cook until sugar is all dissolved.
* Step 6
Cut taro into 1/2, then cut taro into small cubes about 1/2 by 1/2 inches. In a pan, add water and taro. Make sure water level is above taro, start heat, and bring to boil. Lower heat to low after it starts to boil and cook for about 15 minutes or until tender.
* Step 7
In a clean bowl, add hot water to oatmeal according to manufacturer instruction and let it cool.
* Step 8
I used can of pineapple cubes for convenience but you can also use freshly cut pineapple.
* Step 9
Cook boba according to instructions on package.
* Step 10
In a bowl, add shave ice. Add about 2 to 3 tablespoons full of each of ingredients. There's no particular order when you add those ingredients. You can add more or less per your liking. Top it off with sugar and condensed milk. Now enjoy.
