Dhabe Wali Dal

I like to make this mixed tadka dal for lunch every now and then, tastes great especially in cold, winter months with naan or paranthas. Made it today for lunch so thought of sharing my recipe 😊

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

Wash the dals well. Soak in a bowlful of water for 15-20 minutes. Add them to a pressure cooker with a little salt, pressure cook. Cook for 10 mins on sim after the first big whistle, take off heat.

* Step 2

Now heat the ghee in a cooking pan, add the cumin seeds, cloves, bay leaf, black cardamom, kasuri methi and allow to crackle for a few seconds.

* Step 3

Immediately add the asafoetida, turmeric, coriander, cumin, red chilli powders. Saute briskly for two seconds on low medium heat.

* Step 4

Add the chopped garlic, ginger and green chillies. Saute for a few seconds until golden brown.

* Step 5

Add the chopped onions, saute until they turn golden brown.

* Step 6

Add the tomatoes. Saute until they turn soft and leave the sides of the pan

* Step 7

Add salt and garam masala powder, mix & saute for a minute.

* Step 8

Add 1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves. Add this ready masala into the cooked dal in the cooker.

* Step 9

Add water as required, again pressure cook upto 2 whistles.

* Step 10

Take off heat. Garnish with the remaining fresh coriander leaves. Serve hot with naan, roti, parantha or rice. I served it with Tikona Paranthas today! 😍
