My Tourtiere

This is a mix between my great Aunt Pearl's recipe and another recipe I found online, so i mixed the recipes together to create my own. Thank you hubby Mike for the photography excellence!!

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

Boil potato. When finished reserve 1/2 cup of the water potatoes were boiled in. Drain and mash the potato. Leave in the pot for now.

* Step 2

In a pot or skillet large enough to accommodate, simmer the meats, onion and garlic on low for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Drain off any fat Add the seasonings and the potato water. Cook another 1/2 hr on low. Add your reserved mashed potatoes to meat mixture and combine well. Remove from heat. Cool completely.

* Step 3

Fill the pie plate with the cooled meat mixture. Cover with the top part of pastry and seal the edges. Make an egg wash and brush on the pastry

* Step 4

If baking right away, brush with egg wash, and bake in preheated 400F oven for 30 - 40 minutes until crust is golden. Serve warm. If cooking from frozen, brush with egg wash and bake in preheated 400F oven for 50-60 minutes or until golden.
