Phalse ka sharbat/ Falsa squash
#cooler
My love for berries is impeccable, I make sure to consume my favourite berries in every possible form. One of the most cherished berries is this beautiful purple hued tiny berry called Phalsa or Falsa in India. It is found mainly in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam. It's botanical name is Grewia Asiatica. These berries are sweet- sour in taste and have a very little flesh/pulp and more seeds. But that little flesh is more than enough to tantalize your tastebuds. It's best enjoyed with rock salt, but you can sprinkle red chilli powder and bhuna jeera as well. Summers are here and so are these tiny berries. These days you can hear the hawkers selling these berries in the same old fashioned way..."khatte-meethe phalse, taaze-taaze phalse"...
My mother used to preserve these tiny berries by making falsa(phalsa) squash. And I love to use it in many other ways too, I make falsa popsicles, sweet and sour falsa chutney and next on my list is falsa ice cream. Wait for the upcoming recipes...😀😀 Falsa is not only tasty but is healthy as well. It is a great sauce of anti oxidants, purifies blood, relieves digestive and respiratory problems and reduces the cholesterol levels too.
Look for the phalsa popsicles recipe at the end...#cooler
