Orange Jelly Mithai (Jelly Candy with Fresh Orange juice)
#cookpadindia
#mychildhoodrecipe challenge was a wonderful challenge, I thoroughly enjoyed a lot recreating my favourite childhood recipes and sharing it. There are many more which I have already shared before and I will be sharing in future too. Thank you #cookpadindia for letting us go through the childhood memories. #nostalgicmoments
Jelly Mithai coated with sugar used to be my favourite apart from Cadbury chocolate, rosogollas, Churan, sticky toffee, peppermint etc. The local ones did not have flavour but used to be soft and the ones made in Hong Kong and China which sometimes our relatives used to get for us from Darjeeling as gift ( from Foreign goods market in India Nepal border) had fruity flavour but were a little harder than our local jelly mithai available in Kolkata but loved it because of fruity flavour. So here I have tried to create both kinds in one- soft jelly with fruity flavour and have made in orange flavour with fresh orange juice. My son gave a big thumbs up and was so happy and we big kids also enjoyed it thoroughly.☺️

Cooking instructions
* Step 1
Add the gelatin to the orange juice and let it bloom. Mix it once so that it's thoroughly mixed. Leave it like that for a while. Make the moulds ready by oiling with vegetable oil. It's better to use silicon mould or a big container and cut it accordingly. Here I have used an ice tray.
* Step 2
In a pan, heat orange juice along with sugar, lemon juice and orange zest. Once it starts bubbling, lower the flame. Stir it frequently and cook it is about to reach one string consistency. It will roughly take 10 minutes.
* Step 3
Meanwhile, microwave for 30 secs and melt the gelatin and mix the orange food color (optional).
* Step 4
Pour the gelatin in the sugar orange syrup and mix it well and cook for a about 2-3 minutes more.
* Step 5
Immediately pour it in the prepared plastic container or big silicon mould, if pouring in silicon with individual small designs then pour it with the help of ladle. Bring it to room temperature and chill it for 6-8 hours or overnight.
* Step 6
Prepare a plate or silicon mat, pour some sugar on it. With the help of oiled knife loosen and take out the jelly. If in a big mould use oiled knife to take out and cut also. Oil your hand too so that it doesn't stick. Once out of the moulds coat with the granulated sugar and your Jelly Mithai is ready to be relished. If not consumed immediately keep it in a closed container. Enjoy your childhood!
