Japanese-Style Yakigashi (焼き菓子)

Easy recipe to make these cuties! You can shape them into whatever you desire.

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

In a large bowl, mix together cake flour and baking soda.

* Step 2

In a small bowl, mix together condensed milk and egg. Then pour into flour mixture. Stir until well combined.

* Step 3

Use hands to gather dough into ball. If dough sticks to hand, add more cake flour.

* Step 4

Cover and chill in fridge for 30 minutes.

* Step 5

Weigh and divide red bean paste into 12 equal balls, about 22g each. Cover until ready to use.

* Step 6

After resting, divide dough into 12 equal portions, about 8g each.

* Step 7

Flatten dough ball in palm. Place red bean paste ball in the middle. Roll between palms to form a smooth ball.

* Step 8

Pinch dough or add dough to form ears, etc. or your desired shape. Use brown food coloring and tiny paint brush to draw facial features, etc.

* Step 9

Place onto baking sheet 1 inch apart. They do expand a little in the oven.

* Step 10

Bake at 325 °F for 20 minutes. After first 10 mins, if browning too fast, cover top loosely with foil.

* Step 11

When baked golden and top slightly brown, take out from oven. Let cool. Enjoy the cuties!
