Mom's 70s Lasagna
The story behind this according to my mother is that the recipe was given to her by a friend of my father at his request. When his wife found out that he had given us her recipe, she was fit to be tied. I hope she isn't a member on here because now that I have given it to all of you, she would probably catch a stroke.

Cooking instructions
* Step 1
In a large saute pan over medium heat, cook the garlic and onions in the olive oil until the onions are translucent.
* Step 2
Add the ground beef cook stirring until there is no more pink.
* Step 3
Add the drained can of diced tomatoes, sugar, salt, basil, oregano, and black pepper. Mix well and let simmer for 1 hour covered.
* Step 4
While the ground beef mixture singers, prepare the lasagna noodles according to package directions. Place in a colander and rinse well with water. Drain and set aside.
* Step 5
Stir in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, and the water. Continue to simmer another 30 minutes and the set aside to cool.
* Step 6
Preheat the oven for 350°F.
* Step 7
Grease a 9x13 baking dish with olive oil. In the bottom of the dish, thinly spread some of the meat sauce and then a layer of noodle.
* Step 8
On the noodles, spread a thin layer of the cottage cheese and then a layer of provolone. Repeat the layers until the meat sauce is gone.
* Step 9
Sprinkle the top with mozzarella and parmesan and bake in the oven for 30 minutes. Let rest for 15 minutes and serve.
