Sugar Cookies (Christmas)

Sugar Cookies (Christmas)

150 g (3/4 cup)

granulated sugar

281 g (2 1/4 cup)

all-purpose flour

1/2 tsp

salt

30 ml (2 tbsp)

room temperature water

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

In a large bowl, beat butter until smooth. Add the sugar and beat until light and fluffy. Clean the sides of the bowl.

* Step 2

Add egg, and vanilla. Mix until combined.

* Step 3

In a medium bowl, whisk the flour, baking powder, and salt together. Add half of this mixture into large bowl. Mix until slightly combined.

* Step 4

Add rest of mixture until combined. If dough is too sticky, you can add 1tbsp of flour.

* Step 5

Divide dough into 2 parts. Roll each onto parchment paper. Stack the pieces of paper onto a baking sheet, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 1-2 hours.

* Step 6

Once chilled, preheat oven to 350F(177C). Line 2-3 baking sheets with parchment paper.

* Step 7

Use cookie cutters (can use knife or spatula to cut if you don’t have cookie cutters) to cut into shapes. Tear away any excess dough.

* Step 8

Transfer the shapes onto prepared baking sheet. Re-roll the excess dough and keep cutting until all of it is used.

* Step 9

Bake for 10-12 minutes, until slightly golden on top and around the edges. Rotate baking sheet half way through so it will cook evenly.

* Step 10

Let cool before icing.

* Step 11

For the icing: In a medium size bowl mix sugar, vanilla, corn syrup, and water. Mix until thick.

* Step 12

OPTIONAL: separate into amount of bowls for food coloring. (I recommend red, green, and white for christmas time).

* Step 13

Decorate the cookies and then enjoy!
