Chicken Meatballs in Chinese Orange Sauce

Meatballs can be oven baked or pan fried in a skillet with little oil.

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

Prepare chicken - make your own ground chicken or use store-bought ground/ mince. Place ground chicken and bread crumbs in a mixing bowl. In a separate bowl, mix the rest of the ingredients for meatballs until well-combined. Pour mixture to chicken and bread crumbs bowl. Mix well but avoid over mixing.

Rub hand with little oil or wet lightly before working on the meat paste. Next, Roll into bite size balls.

Pan fried with little oil. Keep turning until balls are cooked. Alternatively, you can also bake the balls. Place on a baking pan, spray with some oil, then bake at 160°C - 180°C (depending on the oven) for 20 - 25 minutes or until fully cooked.

Orange Sauce 👉🏻 In a pot combine all ingredients to make the sauce EXCEPT orange zest and corn flour slurry. Cook mixture over medium heat for few minutes until sugar is fully dissolved. Then add corn flour slurry, continue cooking and stirring until mixture begins to thicken.

Once thickened, taste the sauce and adjust seasonings accordingly. Orange sauce should taste sweet and tangy. Turn the heat off and stir in orange zest. Mix well. This sauce is also good for orange fried chicken. Today, we use this sauce to coat our chicken meatballs. Serve warm.

These balls are good on its own, to add to your pasta or coat in your favourite sauce. In this recipe, we coat these balls in Orange sauce.
