IPhone Cake Decoration Idea

My oldest just turned 12, awkward age! He decided less than a week before he wanted a cake that looked like an iPhone so ebay came to the rescue with edible app pictures printed on fondant icing. All I had to do was cut them out and stick them onto the iced cake. I literally finished work on Friday and ran home to bake and decorate this for the next day so it's a bit haphazard and there are things I would change such as I didn't mark out the phone from the box - it was supposed to look like the phone was sitting on top of it's box but I didn't notice I hadn't quite finished that! He liked it anyway lol

Ingredient

500 g

buttercream

600 g

fondant icing

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

I doubled my loaf tin recipe for each 9 inch square then levelled off both squares when cooled

* Step 2

Buttercreamed them together

* Step 3

Cut right down the middle, looks like a wholemeal bread sandwich lol

* Step 4

Spread more buttercream on then stacked as shown

* Step 5

I spread a thin layer of buttercream over the top and all sides

* Step 6

Rolled the fondant out into a large circle then smoothed down and trimmed off the excess

* Step 7

Coloured the offcut fondant with a touch of food colouring and cut out a rectangle to make the phone display before adding the 'apps' which I glued down with plain water

* Step 8

The 'app pack' I bought came with a phone front and back which I used to decorate the longer sides of the box

* Step 9

I used an edible ink pen to mark on some detail such as the home button and I should have used it on the box to separate the phone but oh well!! I was going to write 'iPhone' and draw the apple symbol on the box portion too but by midnight I'd had enough of it to be honest! It had been a long day!
