Moong Daal and Soya Khichdi

#HBR #cookpadindia #innovative #protien This particular innovative version is made of Moong Daal or Yellow Split Moong along with Soya chunks. It's a well known one pot meal known for it's incredible taste. Though it's quite simple on it's own, a huge array of different side dishes and accompaniments is what makes this way too incredible. As the popular saying goes- Khichdi ke chaar yaar- Kheema, Khatta, Ghee, Achar. You can serve this with all of these or simply just one of it too.

25-30 minutes
350 gms

raw Rice

2 tsp

Salt

1/2 tsp

Garam Masala

1/2 cup

Soya chunks

2-3 tbsp

Oil

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

First of all, soak Rice and the Lentils after washing thoroughly for at least 20 minutes. Now in a non-stick pot, heat Ghee or Oil or a combination of both and add the Ginger garlic paste and the sliced Onion to it. Saute it for a few minutes until the raw smell fades away on a low heat. Now add the chopped Tomatoes too.

Add the whole Garam Masalas one by one. Also add the Garam masala, Red Chilli and the Turmeric powders along with Green Chillies and Coriander Leaves. Cover and cook for about 5 minutes. Don't forget to add Soya chunks as well. After about 5 minutes of sauteeing, add the soaked Rice and the Lentils.

* Step 3

Saute for a minute and then add about 4 cups of water along with Salt. For the first 10 minutes, let it cook on a high flame stirring in between, to mix everything well. After 10 minutes, lower the flame and cover. In between just keep mixing it gently. That's it. It gets done pretty quickly. Yum!
