Easier Beef Rendang

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

To make the spice paste, combine all ingredients and 1/4 cup water in a blender. Process until smooth paste. Add a little more water if needed. Set aside.

* Step 2

In a pot, heat oil then quick fry the cinnamon stick and star anise for 1 minute or until fragrant.

* Step 3

Add the beef and saute for a couple of minutes then pour the spice paste. Stir until the meat is covered.

* Step 4

Pour coconut milk, tamarind water, turmeric powder, cumin powder, chili powder and sugar. Stir until well combined. Cover and simmer on medium-low heat for 1 hour and 45 minutes or until meat has absorbed most of the liquid and meat is tender. Stir occasionally. Season with salt to taste.
