Plain Breakfast Upma

#GA4 #week5 An evergreen South Indian breakfast special. Nutritious and very easy to make, it is an all time hit with my family. It is a must have one on most of the days especially weekends and holidays. Not only is it a healthy and a filling one, it's absolutely tasty too. I have added Peanuts for the crunch but it can also be very well made without them. Fresh Coconut Chutney goes very well with this. Though it tastes good with any flavourful Chutney for that matter. And also one thing to be taken note of is that it can be relished all by itself too without any accompaniment or Condiment. That's the beauty of this simple yet elegant looking Breakfast dish from the Southern part of India. Happy Breakfast Time Everyone!

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

Heat oil and add in the Mustard Seeds. After they splutter well, add in the Bengal Gram, Curry Leaves, finely chopped Garlic and Onion. Saute for about 2 minutes on a medium high heat.

* Step 2

Next add in the Peanuts and Green Chillies. Let the Peanuts cook till the raw aroma goes away. In about 10 minutes time, add Semolina and roast for 2-3 minutes by stirring it in between. Add hot water about 2 cups to it and mix well.

* Step 3

Cover and simmer for the next 5 minutes. Garnish with chopped Coriander Leaves and serve it hot with any Chutney, Pickle or just as is.
