I'm going to start with a disclaimer.
I am NOT a fan of spam.
I am generally not a fan of American cheese.
But as kids, we loved this stuff. We loved it so much, all 3 of us would stop playing, and help Mom make it.
Now today it is much easier to make, with food processors, and such, but in the 60's, we used a cast iron hand grinder. We would just grind the spam, onion and cheese together. Assemble these, on regular old white bread, and broil them. It took probably 5 minutes to broil them, but the smell was awesome, and to us kids, seemed like a lifetime. Then either, the patience to allow them to cool, or burn the roof of your mouth, which we did frequently. So good. We would make 10 or so for lunch, usually.
I discovered that they are easy, but have to be done a certain way for the proper flavor.
So here it is, slightly adjusted for an adult palate, I.E. hot sauce and black pepper added.
This is sort of a generic recipe where amount of ingredients in relation to each other is the important thing.
Since it was only me, i bought a roll, and i couldn't find a small can of spam, so i tried Vienna sausages. Not as good as spam.
