Hearty Ham & Bean Soup
Over this passed winter season I was blessed with an abundance of dried beans!👏🤠 However, I dont have much experience cooking with them.🤷🏻♀️🤔 This was one of the first ideas I had and also gave me a chance to use up our leftover Christmas ham! #souprecipe #splitpeas #driedbeanrecipe #15beanrecipe #hamandbeansoup #fridgecleanout #leftoversmakeovers
Ingredient
Food ration :
8-10 servings
Cooking time :
2 hrs
Cooking instructions
* Step 1
Place the beans in a large stock pot and cover with 10 cups water. Let the beans soak overnight or bring the pot to a boil, then turn off the heat. Cover and allow to soak for at least one hour.
* Step 2
After soaking, pour the beans into a strainer and clean the pot. Run the beans under cold water to rinse until the water runs clear.
* Step 3
Allow the beans to drain while sauteing the onion and garlic. Add the oil to the pan and cook over medium heat. Add the onion and saute until softened. Add the garlic and cook one more minute.
* Step 4
When the onion and garlic are cooked, pour in the chicken broth, water, ham, split peas, and beans. Also add in fresh herbs & dried seasonings to taste. Stir to combine.
* Step 5
Cook over medium heat until the soup begins to boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for one hour 30 minutes, until the beans are softened and the liquid has thickened.
