Warm Chickpea Salad

Warm Chickpea Salad

Traditional dish from Portugal. I suppose you can consider it a poor man's dish from olden times. I grew up on farmlands, raised by my grandparents and great-grandparents and although we weren't struggling financially we used to have this often perhaps with a lettuce or tomato salad on the side. It's easy to make, a super cheap meal which will fill you up.

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

Bring water to boiling point in a saucepan.

* Step 2

Add the salt cod which has previously been soaked in water to remove the salt and add the egg to the water.

* Step 3

Boil for about 10 minutes then add the chickpeas and cook for a further 4-5 minutes.

* Step 4

Drain well once done, I used a colander. Peel the eggs and set aside along with the cooked salt cod.

* Step 5

Next add the chickpeas to a plate and season with olive oil, vinegar and salt as per taste.

* Step 6

Add the onion and mix everything together well. Eat with the egg and salt cod.
