Khatta meetha kolatha dali

#grandma #ebook #post8 This is a traditional recipe of Odisha. The literally meaning of Kolatha dali is "Horsegram dal"/ "kulthi dal". This is so healthy. Now-a-days people do not prepare this type of dal. You can called it as one of the lost recipes of Odisha. Garlic and Ambula (dry mango) are the combination of preparing this dal. Due to the addition of Ambula ( dry mango) this is sour in taste and also due to the addition of Jaggery it is somewhat sweet in taste. This dal takes more time to prepare. So I used cooker for preparing the dal and also used grinder for grinding the dal. In old days people used clay pot for preparing the dal which took much more time.

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

Dry roast the dal for sometime till they become change their colour.

* Step 2

Wash the dal in water and then pressure cook the dal with water, salt, turmeric powder and dry mango up-to 5-6 whistles in low flame.

* Step 3

After that switch off the flame and allow it to cool down completely and then grind the dal without grinding the mango piece.

* Step 4

Heat a Kadai and put oil in it and add punch phoran in it. When the mustard from the punch phoran crackle then add the chopped onion, crushed garlic cloves along with red chilli and curry leaves in it.

* Step 5

When the onion becomes translucent and the raw smell of garlic has gone then add the dal in it.

* Step 6

And also add the dry mango piece, tamarind juice, Jaggery powder in it. Allow it to boil for 2-3 minutes.

* Step 7

Now your Khatta meetha kolatha dali is ready to serve. Serve hot with steamed rice.
