Chakki ki shak is a famous dish from Madhya Pradesh.It is made of whole wheat flour dumplings. Whole wheat dumplings are fried and then cooked in a spicy and tangy gravy made of tomato and curd. This this is very similar to Rajasthani gatte ki sabji. You can have this dish we a complete dish or can be served with steamed rice.
Cooking instructions
* Step 1
In a bowl, mix together wheat flour, turmeric powder,salt and carom seeds.
* Step 2
Mix, add water, knead and make a soft and sticky dough.
* Step 3
After kneading, let the dough rest for at least 15 minutes.
* Step 4
After 15 minutes, knead the dough for some more time till the dough does not stick to your hands.
* Step 5
Make a long log like the picture.
* Step 6
Cut in 1/2 inch size pieces with a knife.
* Step 7
Place the dumplings in a greased steamer and steam for about 10 minutes.
* Step 8
In the meantime make onion, ginger garlic and tomato paste.
* Step 9
Once the dumplings are steamed, set aside and let them cool.

Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a pan and fry them in hot oil until light golden brown.

In the same oil, add onion paste and saute until light golden brown.
* Step 13
Then add ginger garlic paste.Saute till the paste is cooked on a low flame.

Add the tomato paste and cook for some time.
* Step 15
Add the dry spices, salt and sugar, add little water and mix well.
* Step 16
Cook for a couple of minutes.

Next add curd and cook the curd on low flame.
* Step 18
Once the curd is cooked, add the fried dumplings,mix and cook in low flame.Add hot water if you like a thin gravy.
* Step 19
Cook in medium heat for 3-4 minutes.

Garnish with coriander leaves and cook for another couple of minutes.
* Step 21
Serve hot with some rice or have it as is in a bowl.
