🍏🍎Apple Chutney🍎🍏

This fragrant chutney is made with home grown apples, raisins, onion, spices and vinegar. It’s the perfect accompaniment to cheeseboards and a great alternative to apple sauce when serving roast meats. If you haven’t made chutney before, you will be pleased to know it is easier than you think and the perfect recipe to make when you have a glut of apples. Apple chutney makes a great gift!

Ingredient

Food ration :

per 15g(1tbsp)

Cooking time :

2hrs
1 litre (34 fl oz)

white vinegar

500 g (1 lb)

brown sugar

250 g (8 oz)

sultanas

250 g (8 oz)

raisins

1 & 1/2 tsp

ground ginger

1 & 1/2 tsp

ground allspice

1 tsp

salt

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

Heat the vinegar gently in a large pan while stirring in the sugar. Once the sugar has all dissolved add in the remaining ingredients. Bring slowly to the boil.

Simmer for at least 2 hours to thicken and darken the chutney. Allow the chutney to cool slightly before spooning into clean, sterile jars.

You can eat the chutney straight away but the flavours mature if left for about 3 months before eating.
