Shrimps In Mustard Gravy

It is a delicacy from West Bengal, India. Shrimps/prawn when cooked in mustard gravy has an unique taste. Here the curry is tempered with fenugreek seeds and the aroma is awesome.

Ingredient

500 grams

shrimps

1 pod

garlic

150 ml

mustard oil

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

Take onion, whole pepper, mustard seeds, and garlic in a grinder. Make a smooth paste. If needed add some water. Keep aside.

* Step 2

Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan, stir fry the shrimps for 2-3minutes. Keep aside.

* Step 3

Heat oil in another wok /pan. Heat till smoking point, add fenugreek seeds, when crackle, add onion-mustard -garlic paste. Cook for 2-3minutes.

* Step 4

Add all powdered spices and saute for 2-3minutes.

* Step 5

Add chopped tomato and salt.Stir.Add 1cup of water. Cover the lid and cook on a medium flame for 5-6minutes.

* Step 6

Now tomatoes are cooked well, stir and cook till water dries. Add fried shrimps and add 1/2cup water. Cover and cook for 3-4minutes.

* Step 7

Garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Put off the flame. Leave for 5 minutes.

* Step 8

Serve with hot rice, chapati.
