Another soup from Homemade Soups book by Grace Mulligan & Dilwen Philips skipping the onion/garlic part…

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

Heat the oil in the large lidded saucepan. Add cumin seeds and curry powder. (I couldn’t find cumin seeds and no garlic curry powder 😟 so I substitute with whole seeds garam masala (which has cumin seeds) and turmeric. Garam masala also has some components from curry mix. I used 1/2 tsp turmeric).

Add the tomatoes πŸ…, carrots πŸ₯•, lentils and orange zest. Make up orange juice🍊 to 600 ml with water and stir into the soup. Bring to the boil, cover and simmer for 30 min until carrots are tender.

* Step 3

Remove the soup from the heat and leave to cool briefly. Blend until smooth or use potato masher to give fairly coarse texture.

Add the chick peas and adjust the seasoning if necessary. Reheat gently and serve with croutons. I added 1 tablespoon of brown sugar the balance the sour taste.
