Gyū Don
‘Gyū’ means 'Beef'. Thinly sliced Beef and Onion simmered in a sweet soy sauce flavoured dashi stock are on top of the rice. ‘Gyū Don’ is s very popular food in Japan, it is commonly served with Beni Shōga (pickled ginger) but it is totally optional.
Cooking instructions
* Step 1
Slice Beef and Onions. Ginger needs to be thinly sliced into strips. See ‘How to slice meat thinly’ on Note & Tips page of my website. http://www.hirokoliston.com/notes-tips/
* Step 2
Heat Dashi Stock, Sugar, Mirin and Soy Sauce in a frypan or a large sauce pan over a medium heat, add Onion and Ginger.
* Step 3
When it’s started boiling, add thinly sliced Beef and cook for 10 to 15 minutes.
* Step 4
Make some room to add Harusame Noodles into the sauce, and cook until the noodles become soft and transparent.
* Step 5
Half fill a bowl with freshly cooked rice and cover it with the Beef mixture. Serve with Pickle Ginger if you like.
