Chicken Gyros

Chicken Gyros

This is the first time I’ve tried this recipe shared by a family member. Easy ( if messy ) preparation and great with pitta bread and salad .

Ingredient

Food ration :

3-4 people

Cooking time :

1 hour 20 minutes
50 ml

olive oil

1 teaspoon

ground cumin

1 teaspoon

ground coriander

1/2 teaspoon

ground cinnamon

2-3 cloves

crushed garlic

1 teaspoon

paprika

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

Make the marinade by combining all ingredients except chicken, onion/skewer.

* Step 2

Add flattened chicken thighs - I used the palm of my hand to gently flatten so that all the pieces were about the same thickness

* Step 3

Marinade for a minimum of 2 -4 hours

* Step 4

Assemble marinated chicken thighs on the skewer - add at right angles to each other to even out the gyros stack.

* Step 5

Bake in oven at 200 degrees centigrade for 1 hour 20 minutes or until cooked through. The outside will get a little burnt but don’t worry - important to check the inside is cooked.

Remove from oven, cool slightly and then slice. Serve with salad and pita bread. A nice side dish is some yoghurt with mint (in winter I substitute a teaspoon of mint sauce from fresh mint).
