Blackberry Dumplings

Blackberry Dumplings

A Southern favorite. Usually served with a million seeds but I strained these.

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

Wash the blackberries. Using a sieve smash the berries through the sieve.

Use the 1/2 cup water to thin the pulp and push through the sieve. Producing the juice.

A few seeds will get through. This is a lot of work. Now if you don't mind the seeds bypass these steps. As you squash the pulp through using some of the juices to thin the pulp out enough to pass through the sieve, remove the pulp and seeds and continue in batches.

Next batch.

There is only about 1 million seeds being removed. So save some add to a brown paper bag to allow natural drying and then you can plant them and grow your own blackberry plants.

OK I got 5-1/2 cups of juice

Put this on to heat and simmer adding the sugar and salt.

Add the ingredients except the juices in a bowl for the dumplings.

Mash and mix them together.

Add the juices and knead into a ball.

Roll it out on a flour dusted surface.

Cut into the sizes you desire.

Add to the boiling juices.

Let gently boil for 15 minutes stirring occasionally mix the cornstarch and water and add. Stir while it simmers for 5 minutes cover and turn off heat.

Serve this will go good with your favorite ice cream.
