Fish Kachuri

#mychildhoodrecipe Bongs are always related to ‘ mach bhaat ghum’ and Bengalis always bask in the glory of fish items. In my childhood my grandma had her special fish kachuri recipe and it has special memories with me. The fish kachuri made with Bhetki fish was amongst one of the items served for the first time to my husband - her ‘natjamai’ . I recreated her recipe with katla fish and today I wish she was here to taste the fish kachuri made by her granddaughter.

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

Boil the fishes in a cup of water, 1/4 cup vinegar, 1/2 tsp salt and 1 tsp crushed pepper corns. Cool the fishes and remove the bones carefully and mash it. Now in vegetable oil fry onions, garlic cloves and ginger paste, add mashed fish, add salt to taste, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, cumin and coriander powder, garam masala powder and fry till the raw smell is gone. Now the fish stuffing is ready.

Now take 2 cups maida, add a pinch of salt and 1 tsp vegetable oil and add water as required to make the dough. Now make 10 balls and make a gap and add 1 tbsp of the fish stuffing and keep aside covered for 10 minutes

Now use a rolling pin to make round flat bread slowly with care so that the stuffing doesn’t come out.

Now take vegetable oil in a kadai for deep frying and once steaming hot slowly low down one by one and fry on both sides.

Serve hot with any pickle or sauce or any vegetable curry of your choice. I always preferred with sauce in my childhood
