Gordy Owen Fish Fry

My golfing buddy, Gordy, handed me a couple pounds of fresh caught perch from his ice fishing adventure. He also handed me his own recipe and said it’ll be the best perch you have ever had. And he was absolutely correct! Delicious!

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

Mix all dry ingredients except for planko and bread crumbs in a bowl

* Step 2

Beat 2 eggs and beer in a mixing bowl

* Step 3

Combine step 1 and 2 ingredients together and mix thoroughly to make the batter. The batter should be relatively thick but should run slowly off the fillets. If it’s too thick add some more beer. If it’s too thin add some more flour.

* Step 4

Dry filets off with a paper towel and add them to the batter.

* Step 5

In a skillet pour 2 cups of canola oil and heat

* Step 6

When oil is good and hot, start pulling filets out of the batter 1 at a time and roll them in the bread crumb planko mixture and add it to the frying oil. Fry until golden brown, turning them over as needed.

* Step 7

Serve with cocktail sauce if desired.
