Classic Scones
C‘mon #England! 🏴⚽️
A British classic. Scones served with clotted cream and Jam. These will be mine and my families snack as we watch the match tonight.
Cooking instructions
* Step 1
Pre heat oven to 220C/fan 200C/gas 7.
Tip 350g self-raising flour into a large bowl 1/4 tsp salt and 1 tsp baking powder, then mix.
* Step 2
Add 85g butter then rub in with your fingers until the mix looks like fine crumbs.
Then add sultanas mix it again.
Put 170ml milk into a jug and add 3 tbsp of sugar 1 egg, 1 tsp vanilla extract whisk well til all ingredients combined well
* Step 3
Make a well in the dry mix, then add the liquid little at a time and combine it quickly with a cutlery knife – it will seem pretty wet at first.
* Step 4
Dust some flour onto the work surface and tip the dough out. Knead with lightly hands then fold the dough over 2-3 times until it’s a little smoother. Roll out with rolling pin into a round shape but little thick.
* Step 5
Take a 5cm round shape cutter Cut into as many rounds as possible with a fluted 5cm/2in cutter and place them on the prepared baking trays.
Brush the tops of the scones with a beaten egg or any egg and milk left in the jug.
* Step 6
Bake for 12-15 mins until risen and golden on the top.
Eat just warm or cold
Serve topped with jam & clotted cream.
