Mom's Cut Out Sugar Cookies from 1971

My mom has been making this same recipe for decades! Now I make them with my kids! Easy to double the batch! Makes great Christmas, Easter, Valentines, Halloween and Thanksgiving shapes! Yields 3-8 dozen (depending on cookie cutters used) as is but feel free to double!

Ingredient

Food ration :

Everyone!
1 1/2 Cups

granulated sugar

1/2 teaspoon

almond extract

1/2 teaspoon

vanilla extract

3 1/2 Cups

flour

2 teaspoons

cream of tartar

1 teaspoon

baking soda

1/2 teaspoon

salt

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

Cream 1 cup butter for 1 minute

* Step 2

Add 1½ cups sugar and cream until white and fluffy

* Step 3

Add eggs 1 at a time - beating until completely incorporated after each one. (3 eggs)

* Step 4

Add ½ tsp vanilla and ½ tsp almond extracts

* Step 5

Sift dry ingredients together (3½ cups flour, 2 tsp cream of tartar, 1 tsp baking soda, ½ tsp salt)

* Step 6

Add dry ingredients ¼ cup at a time to mixer

* Step 7

CHILL dough - separate into 3 flattened disks and chill 3-4 hours or overnight between wax paper

* Step 8

Preheat oven to 375°F

* Step 9

Roll out to between ⅛"and ¼" thick and cut out your shapes. Dip cookie cutters in flour for easy cutting!

* Step 10

Bake on ungreased cookie sheets 6-8 min

* Step 11

Cool on pan for 1 min, then cool on wire racks until completely cooled

* Step 12

Decorate with icing and sprinkles and enjoy!
