Cooking instructions
* Step 1
In a large bowl, add raw rice and urad dal. Soak in water for one hour.
* Step 2
After an hour drain out the water. Rinse it well with fresh water and again drain out all the water completely. Transfer it to a mixer. Add little water at a time and grind it to a thick smooth batter.
* Step 3
Transfer the paste to a mixing bowl. Add salt and mix it well. The batter should be thick and flowing. Set it aside.
* Step 4
In a pan add jaggery and water. Cook till jaggery melts completely. Strain and set it aside.
* Step 5
Rinse the chana dal well.
* Step 6
Transfer the chana dal to a cooker. Add water and cook for 6 whistles. Set it aside.
* Step 7
Add ghee to a pan. Add the freshly grated coconut and saute for 2 minutes.
* Step 8
Next add the cooked chana dal and saute it quickly. Mash it with a masher.
* Step 9
Then add the jaggery solution and mix it well. Cook until thick.
* Step 10
Add cardamom powder and mix it well. Cook till it leaves the sides and comes together.
* Step 11
Remove it in a plate and allow it to cool down. Shape into small balls.
* Step 12
Heat oil in a deep frying pan.
* Step 13
Coat each ball with the prepared rice-urad dal batter.
* Step 14
Carefully drop them in the preheated oil. After sometime flip and fry until golden in color.
* Step 15
Remove on a paper towel to drain away the excess oil.
* Step 17
Sweet Seeyam is ready. Enjoy this delicious sweet for Diwali.
