Sweet and sauteed broccoli leaves

Sweet and sauteed broccoli leaves

We grew an awful lot of broccoli plants as an experiment, and when I found out the giant leaves that grew from them were edible, I made a recipe that I feel even kids would enjoy!

Ingredient

Cooking time :

30 mins
2 tablespoons

pancake syrup

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

Cook bacon first. While you are waiting for it to cook, you can rinse and de-stem your broccoli leaves. Make sure to tear them into small pieces.

* Step 2

Do NOT drain your bacon grease! This is good base to sautee the leaves. Remove from heat and let it cool for about 2 minutes so it's not too hot and doesn't burn the leaves. Let your bacon cool on a plate.

* Step 3

Once bacon grease has cooled a bit, simmer on low and add your leaves a little at a time.

* Step 4

Add syrup and stir.

* Step 5

If bacon is cool to the touch, crumble into bits and add to pan. Stir together.

* Step 6

Cover the mixture and let sit for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
