Dal Rasam

Cooking instructions
* Step 1
Wash and soak toor dal for one hour. Pressure cook toor dal with 1/2 cup water. Crush it lightly with the back of a spoon.
* Step 2
In a small mixer, jar takes jeera, pepper, and roughly chopped garlic. Grind to a coarse paste without adding water.
* Step 3
In a pan heat oil. Add in mustard, jeera, and let it splutter. Add in crushed garlic and sauté until aromatic. Add in split green chili, red chili, curry leaves, and sauté for 10 seconds.
* Step 4
Add in turmeric powder, hing, and mix. Immediately add in chopped tomatoes and sauté. Add in water to cook tomatoes along with tamarind paste or tamarind extract and let it cook until tomatoes soften.
* Step 5
Add in dal, prepared masala paste, salt, the required amount of water, and let it come to a boil. Once it comes to a boil, add in chopped coriander leaves and switch off the flame. Rasam should not be boiled for a long time.
* Step 6
Serve hot Rasam with steamed rice.
