Bangalore Style Bisibele Bhat

Authentic Bangalore style Bisibele bhat is a delicacy you must try when eating out in Karnataka. The meaning is hot rice and lentils dish. It's made with rice, tuvar daal, special masala, vegetables, tamarind and a tempering of ghee and cashews. Taste best with crunchy lentils and puffed rice mixture. Cooking instructions

* Step 1

First, wash and soak the daal and rice separately. Then drain and put in pressure cooker allong with 1 tsp turmeric powder and 1 tsp oil. Add 3 cups water. Pressure cook till 4 to 5 whistles. Then cool till pressure is released.

* Step 2

In another pan, heat rest of the oil. Add 1/2 portions of mentioned mustard seeds, Chana daal, urad daal, hing, curry leaves, dry red chillies and saute till crisp.

* Step 3

Then add onions, peanuts, and saute well. Then mix in all the vegetables and stir well. Add turmeric powder, salt and 1 cup water. Cover and cook well till all the vegetables are soft.

* Step 4

Then add the tamarind water, jaggery, bisi bele bhat masala (I used MTR) and combine well. Add cooked rice,daal, salt, chill powder and mix. Cover and cook for 10 minutes.

* Step 5

Now the Bisibele bhat is cooked. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Serve hot with ghee on top accompanied by crunchy and spicy mixture. Enjoy
