Introducing our traditional snack to our teen kids for the very first time 🥇. The youngest one, whose daily staple includes bread, pasta, meat and anything-potatoes, gave a blank look 🙄. The other one, who loves Asian food, gave a positive smile 😊. She thinks it's nice and she likes it sweeter.

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

Place the coconut in a large skillet/deep pan or a wok, and cook without oil over medium-low heat for few minutes, stirring continuously until the coconut is light brown. Remove from the pan and cool completely. Remove from the heat and keep aside.

* Step 2

Using the same large skillet/pan or wok, do the same with rice flour and glutinous rice flour. Pan toast over medium-low heat, stirring constantly for at least 7mins-10mins or until the flour is lightly brown-ish. Remove from the heat and leave to cool.

* Step 3

Next, combine the flour, coconut & sugar. Mix well. Taste and adjust sugar to your liking, and it's done.

Our teen kids (pic below) in our traditional costume (Sea Dayak or the Iban Traditional Costume) celebrating School Harmony Day with teachers and friends. Harmony Day in Australia is a day to celebrate our differences, diversity and learn to live together and respect each other. We also introduce our family food to their friends when they get together.
