Maa ki dal

#uraddal #boxweek17 A special dal made with mostly whole urad. I prepare this with a mix of urad dal, moong dal and toovar dal.

Ingredient

Food ration :

4 people

Cooking time :

40 minutes
1/4 cup

toovar dal

1/4 cup

moong dal

as needed

Water

1 teaspoon

oil

1/4 teaspoon

mustard seeds

Pinch

hing

as per taste

Salt

1/4 teaspoon

turmeric powder

1/2 teaspoon

cumin seeds

1/2 teaspoon

Red chilli powder

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

Wash all the dals together and boil. Pressure cook for 4 whistles. Once done let it down.

* Step 2

In a kadhai, heat oil. Add mustard seeds, hing, tomatoes, turmeric and salt. Add the boiled dal and mix together. Add water if required and let boil for 2-3 minutes.

* Step 3

For the extra tadka, heat oil in a tadka pan. Add the cumin seeds, Curry leaves, red chilli powder and add this tadka to the prepared dal. Simmer for 2 minutes and serve hot with some steamed rice or rotis.
