Gujarati Drumsticks dal

Gujarati cuisine is not just about dhokla and fafda but they have some amazing traditional daily recipes like dal. Being a Maharashtrian, I am a hardcore fan of daal bhaat especially dal made with drumsticks. Gujaratis also make drumsticks dal but with an addition of jaggery and tamarind. Do try this recipe even if you don't like drumsticks ..I am sure you love it.

Ingredient

Food ration :

4 people

Cooking time :

1 hour
1 cup

toor dal

as per taste

Salt

As needed

Water

2 tbsp

Oil

1/2 tsp

Cumin seeds

Pinch

hing

1 tsp

jaggery

1 tablespoon

Kasuri methi leaves

1 tsp

ghee

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

Wash and boil the dal in pressure cooker. In a separate vessel boil drumsticks pieces with 1 cup water.

* Step 2

In a kadhai, heat oil. Add mustard seeds,cumin,hing,garlic, curry leaves, tomatoes.

* Step 3

Add turmeric and saute. Add drumsticks along with its water and saute again. Now add the boiled dal and cook for 2-3 mins

* Step 4

Add the jaggery, mango powder, salt and simmer for 2 mins.

* Step 5

Garnish with Kasuri methi and coriander leaves. Serve hot with steamed rice. Donot forget to drizzle some ghee on top..it takes you to an amazing food journey.
