Lunar New Year Pineapple Tarts๐Ÿโค๏ธ Ong Lai!

Happy Lunar New Year! Pineapple Tarts are a Lunar New Year tradition in Chinese communities in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore.

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

Prepare 1 whole pineapple! Cut off top. Cut into half.

Cut in 8 pieces. Remove the core part(hard part). Remove skin.

Cut into small pieces and place them in a pot. Add sugar and water. Start cooking from the strong heat until it boils. Once it boils, reduce to medium heat and cook until most of the liquid gets evaporated. Reduce the heat to a very low level. Keep cooking for an hour.

Measure all the ingredients for the tarts.

Measure the weight of the whole egg. Make it into half portion.

Once the jam becomes golden brown and sticky, stop the heat. It took me more than 1.5 hours.

Add butter and granulated sugar into a bowl and mix with a spatula. Add skimmed milk, baking powder, egg and mix again. Once all are mixed well, add the flour and mix again.

Use a roll pin and make the dough flat. Dust a chopping board with flour(as much as you need) to avoid the dough to be sticked on the chopping board. Cut into stripes. Place the pineapple jam and roll it with the dough. Use a folk to make a pattern(optional).

Preheat the oven to 180โ„ƒ.

* Step 10

Grease the baking tray with oil or place a parchment paper. Place the tarts. Brush the surface with beaten egg.

Cook in the oven under 180โ„ƒ for around 17 minutes. Enjoy โค
