Ingredient

rice

1 tbsp

ghee/oil

2 tbsp

ghee

As per taste

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

Wash and soak rice and lentils for 30 minutes.

* Step 2

Heat oil ghee in a pressure cooker. Add all whole spices. Saute for 1 minute. Add ginger and green chili paste. Saute for 1 minute.

* Step 3

Add rice and lentils, stir and cook for 2 minutes. Add salt.Add2.5 cups of water.

* Step 4

Close the lid of the pressure cooker. Cook for 1 whistle on high flame, then 2-3whistles on medium flame.

* Step 5

Put off the flame. Let the pressure release itself. After pressure release, adjust the consistency of khichdi.

* Step 6

For tempering, heat ghee, add sliced onion and red chilies. Fry till golden brown. Pour over khichdi.

* Step 7

Serve hot with pickles or curd.
