My Mother’s Stick Doughnuts
My mother’s doughnuts were not round. They were sticks and my sisters and I loved them. And our children, her grandchildren, loved them, too. Her neighbours also loved them. That’s why she used to make a lot of them when she decided to make them.
Cooking instructions
* Step 1
Mix all ingredients to make dough. Divide the dough into 12 portions and roll on the dusted board to make 12 sticks.
* Step 2
Heat Oil about depth of 5cm in a large saucepan over medium heat. Oil should be around 170℃. Carefully place 4 sticks into the Oil. Cook, turning occasionally, for 3 to 5 minutes or until golden brown.
* Step 3
Transfer the stick doughnuts to a tray lined with paper towel. Repeat with the remaining dough.
* Step 4
*Note: My mother never added any extra sugar, cinnamon, icing or chocolate. These very simple fried stick doughnuts are something to remember my mother.
